Dear Parents/Guardians,
The school year is off to a great start and the title I staff at Utica
Elementary would like to say WELCOME to the 2012 - 2013 school year!
What is Title I? Title I is a federally funded program designed to give
extra help to students who are at risk of meeting the state and national
standards in the areas of reading, math, and language arts. Funding for the
program is determined by the percentage of students who qualify for
free/reduced lunches in each building as well as information collected from
the United States Census Bureau.
How do we select students? All students from Newton and Utica Elementary are
elgible for service because of our "school wide" status. Title I teachers
work with students either during reading time or during intervention time.
How do we serve students? Students receive reading instruction in small
groups during their regular reading time and/or during intervention time
based on the needs of the students and the skill being practiced. These
groups tend to change throughout the year as students progress at their own
pace.
How do we gather input to guide the Title I program? The Title I program
gathers input from teachers, students, and parents through annual surveys.
The results of these surveys are used to guide the goals of the Title I
program for the following year.
We look forward to working with your children!
