BAND CONTRACT-2009-2010
I,___________________________________________, understand that to be a participating member of
the Warren G. Harding Band, with all of its rights and privileges, I must hold myself to the highest
level of character, honor, morality, scholarship, and musicianship. I understand that I am a part of a
team and must make sacrifices for the good of the organization. I also understand that to maintain
the organization's decades of tradition and excellence,I must attend and participate in all band
rehearsals, performances, and fundraisers. If I do not fulfill my obligations with the organization,
I understand that privileges, and/or continued membership in this organization may be revoked. I
also understand that once my parents and I sign this contract, I am committed to this organization
for ONE FULL YEAR! (There are no mid-semester drops or mid-year drops, including seniors.)
First,I understand I must attend summer marching band for 6 weeks, Monday through Friday,
8am-12:30pm, Band Camp for a week, 7:30am to 5pm, and during football season, 1st period band
rehearsals from 8:00-8:42am, 5 days a week. Second, I understand during concert and contest
season I may have to rehearse after school. Third, I must attend ALL football playoff games (no
makeups).
I understand that the Harding Band will hopefully be performing on television in Pittsburgh for the
Celebrate the Season Parade sponsored by Macy's of Pittsburgh and NBC on Saturday, Nov. 26,
2009.(This is the Saturday during Thanksgiving weekend). I also understand the WGH Band will be
performing in the Buckeye Invitational the first Saturday in October, (unless there is a game conflict).
Cost is paid for through fundraisers via the Band Boosters. Attendance at these additional
performances is mandatory.
Makeup work for other classes and/or work are not excused absences from band! Most
employers are willing to work around the band schedule if they have the schedule far enough in
advance. Schedule all makeup work for other classes, after school. Also, students who have
excused absences will have the opportunity to make up the rehearsals or performances afterschool.
Finally, I understand that band is a class and the 1st period activity is a portion of my overall
grade for band. That is why band students receive 1.5 credits (athletic band students receive 1.0
credit and majoretes/flagline who are not band members receive .5 credit) for band for the entire
year which is also averaged into the overall GPA. This is how the Board of Education rewards band
students for a job well done and for all their hard work. Remember, band is a privilege, not a right.
Congratulations on your decision to become a Harding Band Member!!!
