November 25, 2009
Dear Families,
I can't believe it is Thanksgiving Break already! I hope you have a
wonderful holiday.
Here's what's happening in 3-B this week:
Spelling: Congratulations to these students who earned a 100% on last
week's spelling test: TAYLOR, SETH, E.J., FAITH, & KELCI. Our list for
next week is being sent home today. Please make sure you clean out your
child's red folder. I have had some students telling me that they did not
get a spelling list. Spelling lists are placed in each child's mailbox on
Friday.
Science: We will continue with our unit 'Forces That Shape the Land". We
will be studying about slow and fast changes to Earth's land. There will be
a quiz on lessons 2 & 3 sometime the week of Dec. 7. We will have a
vocabulary quiz at the end of the chapter. There will be no chapter test.
Reading: Story: "Tops and Bottoms". Look for the 'Family Times' to come
home on Tues. Dec. 1. The vocabulary words for the story are always in this
letter. Since this is an AR book, students will take the written test and
the AR test. Both tests will be Dec. 7 OR Dec. 8.
Math: When we come back from the break, we will begin Ch. 5 on money.
Please work with your child at home on counting various money amounts and
making sure he/she recognizes the coins/bills and their values. Our timed
tests will continue, some will be additon facts and some will be
subtracton facts. Please practice at home. You can download & print math
fact sheets at www.mathfactcafe.com. Kids can also practice facts on the
computer at this site. If you don't have internet, flashcards are great too!
AR: The goal for the month of December is 20 points (total). Remember,
December is a short. Our next teacher
lunch will be Friday, December 18. Keep reading!
STAR STUDENT: Our STAR STUDENT for the week of December 1is TAYLOR BOWMAN.
Congratulations, Taylor!
BOOK FAIR- Dec. 3 will be our 'looking day'. Students will browse and make
a wish list if they are interested in making a purchase. Dec. 10 will be
our 'buying day'.
