BOOK REPORT GUIDELINES
FIRST NINE WEEKS
ORAL REPORT

Goals:

•	Get book of your choice (that you haven’t read before) by September
14, 2009.
•	Book should be read by October 19, 2009. This leaves a week to get
your presentation in order (note cards organized and all).
•	Presentations begin October 26, 2009.

Content Suggestions for ORAL report:

•	Author Information (You may have to look somewhere other than in the
book.)
•	Setting (Remember this means TIME and PLACE of story)
•	Character Description(s)
•	Plot (“What’s happening?” or the highlights)

Other suggestions:

•	Take notes as you read.
•	Use notes in presentation.
•	Notes shouldn’t be written in full sentences.
•	Practice looking down at notes and then back up at your audience as
you speak.
•	Characters should be described using a couple of phrases (not
repeated for another character).
•	Incorrect example:

Victor Rodriguez – goofy guy who tries to impress girls
Michael Torres – goofy guy who tries to impress girls

•	Correct example:

Victor Rodriguez – main character; desires to meet a special girl
Michael Torres – Victor’s friend; rather silly in his attention-getting
methods
