MATH
Your child receives a math Parent Packet for each math chapter. On the top
of the packet is a date. The packet is not to be returned before that date.
The children should be familiar with the skills and concepts before they
begin the work.
The math packets are a great review for the students and lets the parents get
involved with their child's learning. The packets are worth ten bonus points
when they are completed, signed and returned before the chapter test. This is
a great way to raise or maintain a good math grade.
Students should also spend about five minutes on math facts nightly.
READING
The students are reading one AR book each week in our class. On Monday, they
take the AR test, which is entered in the grade book.
Fifth graders are also doing At Home Reading (AHR). They are to read a book
on their level nightly. On the recording sheet, the student is to list the
book name and author and the pages read. Parents are to initial each day's
reading as they observe their child reading. AHR recording sheets are given
to students on Wednesday and are to be completed and returned by the
following Wednesday. This is considered an assignment and will be graded and
entered into the grade book. This is a great way for your child to boost
his/her reading skills and reading grade!
