Morning Meeting
Every day in Room 12 begins with Morning Meeting. Morning Meeting is a powerful way to build a community of learners and help students with academic and social skills. We start each meeting with a fun greeting so that every member of our learning community knows that he/she is valued.
Marvelous Me is a fun activity that will be done during Morning Meeting. Each week, one child will be chosen to be the Marvelous Me for the week. That child will bring in pictures or other items that tell about him or her. They will then sit in a special chair on the Wednesday of that week and show their items. After they share, their classmates will each create a special page for a book that will showcase each child's marvelous qualities. This is a great activity for building community and respect, while at the same time practicing social skills and writing skills. At the end of the week, your child will bring home a book all about how marvelous he or she is!!!
Sharing boxes will be introduced later in the year during Morning Meeting. Children will be randomly chosen to take home a sharing box and fill it with a secret item that they would like to share. (Every student will get a turn.) The item can be food to share with the class, a special stuffed animal or toy, a picture, a book, etc. The student will have to write a paragraph giving clues about the object and will read it to the class.
