Announcements

My homeroom students will be walking to Emerald Village and Dairy King on Tuesday, June 5th.  We created board games on the computer and will be playing those games with the residents.  We will leave Chestnut at approximately 12:45 and return approximately 2:15.  We will need some parent chaperones to walk with the students and help to monitor the games at Emerald Village.  If you are available, please note that on the permission form which will be coming home soon.

The students in both math classes will be beginning a Baseball Math Unit.  This unit is built around the baseball theme and is a review of 5th grade math standards.  Please encourage your child to stay on task during this unit so to assure they will be able to participate in the culminating activities.  At the end of the unit the students will be able to enjoy the movie "Sandlot" and some baseball treats.  The movie is rated PG  so I will send home a permission form which will need to be returned for your child to be permitted to watch the movie.

Please check the homework page for a new addition, 'Our Week at a Glance'.  This will give a snapshot of what we will be doing for the week.  The homework is also divided into 'Weekly Assignments' and 'Daily Assignments'.  Hopefully this new format will provide a better picture of what is going on in our classroom.

Please check this web site often during the school year.  You will be able to find your child's homework responsibilities, check your child's grades, visit the various links that may be assigned for homework or for Daily Fact Practice.

When looking over your child's papers, if you see a P.C. at the top of the paper it stands  for Please Correct.  This means your child has a 70% or below on the paper and has the opportunity to correct the paper, have you sign it, and return it to school to earn 1/2 of the missed points back.  Please encourage your child to take advantage of this opportunity.

Your child will have the opportunity to participate in Daily Fact Practice.  This consists of practicing math facts, math problems, math computer games, etc. for at least 10 minutes in the evening.  When this takes place you will initial a DFP paper.  DFP papers will be collected on the last day of each school.  Once your child has 5 signatures, he/she will receive a sticker.  A special reward will be given after 5 stickers.  The rewards are from Chik-Fil-A and continue to build throughout the year.

WOW words are words of the week.  He/she will have words for math and either science or social studies.  The students are responsible for defining the words and recording the page number from the glossary.  The definitions will be due on Wednesday and quizzes will be given the last day of each school week.  After the first week, their will be one review word from each previous week on the quiz.
