Students finished Charlotte's Web and enjoyed watching the movie. We compared and contrasted the movie to the book. We had our quiz over the story, which will be coming home today. Next we will begin reading other animal stories, including Wanted Mud Blossom, Misty of Chincoteague, Because of Winn Dixie and Owls in the Family. Students will be deciding what story they want to read. Then through literature circles we will discuss the story and practice our reading skills.
Don't forget students need to be reading for October and the responses have changed. Students should no longer be completing summaries. The response directions are in the INDIAN binder. Please help your child create a reading routine early this month so they do not get behind. Thanks for all your support at home!
In language arts, we worked on writing responses to stories. We read a lot of funny books this week and wrote about the story. We learned that the important things to include in a written response are a beginning sentence that introduces our response and details from the story. We wrote about why a fly would make a good superhero, how to get out a loose tooth, and the adventures of a piece of gum. We really used our imagination when writing this week. Don't forget that "Go Home Journals" are coming home today. Some parents are forgetting to complete their homework. Remember the letter doesn't have to be long, just something your child can share with the class. Thanks for your help!
Unit 3 was our focus in math. Students reviewed multiplication and division. We worked on true and false number sentences. We reviewed the steps in solving a number story or word problem. Students did an excellent job being detectives with these types of problems. We always look for those key words that tell us what math process helps. Finally, we learned about parenthesis in math. They always come first. Our test is tentatively scheduled for the end of next week.
Enjoy your weekend! Mrs. Stratton
