5/4 News

In science this week we completed our study of the rainforest. We took a final observation of the class tree frog and crocodiles. We were amazed at their growth. We are now observing them to see if they will shrink back to their original size. We have continued our observations of the mini rainforests, though some of them are no longer rainforests. They have gotten too big for our containers. Finally, we enjoyed a tasty treat that was rather deceiving. You'll have to ask your child to explain.

In math this week we reviewed unit 12. The unit test grades, which came home earlier this week, were rather low. We reviewed these concepts all week and then took another test over this unit. These test grades are coming home today. Students are making silly mistakes in their multiplication and division problems. We stressed how important it is to check over your work. Attached to the midterms coming home is your child's current score on each of the facts test. Students will receive a math test grade for each of the timed tests.

During lab this week we surfed the web looking for information about our rainforest animal or plant. You will notice my rainforest research link that did provide some information for the students. We stressed how important it is to take notes from the information. We are trying to write notes that are NOT complete sentences. We have discussed plagiarism and hope this will force us to create our own writing and not use other author's words. Some of us have begun writing our informational reports, which we are completing on Microsoft Word.

Please don't forget our state tests each week. Students brought home a packet of maps with each region of the United States on Monday. Also included in that information is the dates for the tests. We had our first region test today. These tests are helping us gear up for 5th grade. We will not be preparing in class for these tests, so please take some time at home to study. Thanks for your support!

Midterms are coming home today! Please return the signed slip by Monday. Thanks!
