3/9 News

We finished our nonfiction books, Animals on the Move and Plants Survive with a quiz that came home earlier this week. Then we began new nonfiction stories about plants. These informational books prepared us for the science unit on plants that we began on Thursday. With these stories the students worked on their test taking skills in groups.

We continued review of all our reading skills with our ROAR lessons and assessment. Please remind your child to continue reading at home for the month of March.

In math we began our next unit which includes symmetry, reflections, rotations and translations. The students have really enjoyed working with the transparent mirrors this week to create lines of reflection and lines of symmetry. The unit test will be next Tuesday. Students have a 1/2 sheet study guide in their INDIAN binder.
In science, plants were our focus. We created rye guys in class that we are observing each day. There are no sprouts yet, but we are hopefully that Monday may bring some growth. Finally, the most exciting thing was watching our dinosaur plant go from a dormant state to alive and well. It truly is an amazing sight! You'll have to ask your child to tell you all about it!
Students are still working hard on following directions in their writing prompts. We are doing lots of writing in class gearing up for our state writing test. This week we focused on narratives and informational reports. Both of these were graded responses and will come home early next week.

Just a reminder that the music program is next Monday, March 16th at 7:00 in the Middle School auditorium. Students should arrive at 6:45. Hope to see you then!
