Task

Imagine it is April, 1861, President Lincoln has just been elected as the 16th President of the United States of America. We are still a very young nation and on the brink of the Civil War. New states are trying to join the union, the south is in an uproar over states' rights, tariffs are being raised, and slavery is being challenged greatly in the north. The U.S. is in a state of crisis. Shots then ring out as Fort Sumnter is fired upon. The Civil War has begun. Many of the young men and women around you leave to serve either the North Union States or the South Confederate states. We now found our nation split with two presidents and two strongly adverse opinions.... What side are you on?

The objective of this learning activity is to expand your knowledge of the Civil War Era. Throughout the next several weeks, you will be given individual assignments to learn perspectives of the North, the South and the allies of each force. We will learn the motives behind the different points of view entering the war and work to better our understanding of the impact this war made on the United States as a nation.

Again, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
