Science and Study Skills Required Materials These items will be brought to class every day. 3 ring binder with pockets 2 #2 pencils loose leaf notebook paper red ink pen 3 tab dividers textbook Homework 1. Homework is posted on the white board in my room and on Teacher Web. TeacherWeb.com/OK/CasciaHall/Dpowers/ 2. Use a #2 pencil with a good eraser. 3. Your work should be neat and easy to read. If a mistake is made, erase the wrong answer completely before filling in the space with the correction. Do not use arrows to indicate where correct answers might be found. 4. Label all work with your first and last name and section. 5. Homework is turned in at the beginning of class on the day it is due. Assignments one day late will receive a C, the second day, a D. Assignments are not accepted after the second day late. 6. No extra credit. Maintaining daily assignments and reviewing for tests is the best way to earn a favorable grade. 7. If you miss class for any reason, check with me for any missed work. Laboratory Procedures Safety and the proper use of laboratory equipment is emphasized in all labs. Horse play and performing unauthorized experiments will not be tolerated. Tests/ Exams 1. 100 point tests are given after each chapter. Many questions are taken directly from worksheets, and section and chapter reviews. 2. A progress report with a cumulative grade is issued after each test. Compare report scores with actual scores of your graded work for accuracy. 3. If you are absent the day before a test because of an appointment, you are NOT excused from taking the test. Tests are scheduled in advance to allow adequate study time. Exceptions are made for students absent due to illness. 4. Comprehensive exams are given at the end of each semester over information covered during that semester. Grades 1. Grades are based on points assigned to homework, labs, tests, and projects. 2. Grading Scale 90 – 100% A 80 – 89% B 70 – 79% C 60 – 69% D <59% F Academic Dishonesty Cascia men and women are expected to be persons of good character. Cheating, plagiarism, representing someone else’s work as your own, and all other such practices do not have a place in the classroom and will not be tolerated. Tutoring I am available before / after school and during break for additional assistance. Notebook 1. Label tab dividers as Science Notes, Science Work, Study Skills. 2. Keep all graded work, tests, and progress reports in date order. 3. If you are absent for any reason, make arrangements to get class notes from a friend. Some material covered in class will not be found in your textbook. 4. Keep this course information sheet behind the Science Notes tab for reference. Classroom rules 1. Arrive to class on time. Be in your seat and quiet when the bell rings. 2. Be prepared for class. 3. Do assignments on time. 4. Respect yourself and others. WELCOME! |
