Thu 20 Aug:      Discuss chapter 1: “The Development of Journalism.”

Fri 21 Aug:        Syllabus slip due.  Editors’ day: Brainstorm and plan for this year.  HW: p. 31 #7.

 

Week 2

Mon 24 Aug:     Discuss chapter 2: “Journalism—What Is It?”  HW: p. 31 #3, 4, or 5.

Tue 25 Aug:      Quiz: chapter 2.  Discuss p. 31 #3-5.

Wed 26 Aug:     Editors' day.

Thu 27 Aug:      Discuss chapter 3: “Knowing the Law.”

Fri 28 Aug:        Prepare for exam.

 

Week 3

Mon 31 Aug:     Exam: chapters 1-3.  Project due: your choice of p. 31 #6, p. 39 #1, or p. 39 #5.

Tue 1 Sep:        Editors' day.

Wed 2 Sep:        Discuss chapter 4: “Gathering the News.”

Fri 11 Sep:        Editors' day/Time to work on interview assignment.
 

Week 5

Mon 14 Sep:      Exam: chapters 4, 5, 7, and 8.  Interview assignment due.

Tue 15 Sep:      Discuss chapter 9: "Opinions and Their Place."  (Bishop Kelley, Tulsa World)

Wed 16 Sep:      Editors' day.

Thu 17 Sep:      Work on Cascianette.
Fri 18 Sep:        Discuss chapter 6 and 10: “Learning Newspaper Style” and "Learning to Read and Edit Copy."
