Chemistry (Zumhadl, 5th Edition)
INTRODUCTION
The Advanced Placement Chemistry Course is designed to be the
equivalent of the general chemistry course usually taken during the
first college year. It requires individuals that possess that extra
drive and ability to enable them to take advantage of this
acceleration.
OBJECTIVES
One of the objectives of this course is to prepare for the A.P.
Chemistry Exam given on Tuesday May 11, 2010. All students are expected to
take this exam. The cost is $84.00 and is not included in the
tuition.
Another objective of this class is to prepare students for the
demands made upon them during their early college years. Students
will have written homework every night. Students are encouraged to
work either in small groups or with partners on many of these
assignments. Difficulties on these assignments can be discussed with
me before school, after school or during the "aclivity periods".
The last objective of this course is to provide students with
interest and talent, an opportunity to work to their potential.
STRUCTURE
Lecture will be held five periods per week. There will be two
additionsl class periods for Laboratory. Students will be expected to attend
both labs and lecture during the mornings of Minimester. Minimester will
count on the third nine weeks. Student will be expected to attend a 2-3 hour
review on the weekend preceding the test.
GRADING
Grades will be calculated on a total point system. Examinations
will comprise 70% of the grade homework and quizzes
making up the remaining 30%. The AP Lab Grade will be based on the completion of the laboratory
exercise and submission of a computer generated lab report.
The major exams will be 100 points each, however the semester final will
be worth 300 points.
