Section 4.1 Antiderivatives and the indefinite integral. Suggest that student 
paper clip pg. 244. Assign: 10-12 19-42,45-47,53,56-62,67,69,70,71-73. This 
assignment will cover 2 class periods.

Lesson #23
Section 4.2 In lieu of the text material for this concept handouts will be 
provided. The use of rectangles and Reimann Sums to approximate the area 
under curves. Left and Right sums will be demonstated as well as the midpoint 
method.This is a precurser to the Trapezoid method which occurs on every AP 
Exam in some form or another. The assigned problems will be included with the 
handout.

Section 4.3, Reimann Sums. Include a review of section 4.2 Emphasis is on

Section 5.8 Inverse Trig functions. Review of pre-calc. Know domain and range 
of arcsin, arctan, and arccos only.Will learn derivatives of these inverse

Section 6.2 Finding Volumes by the disk method, washer method and cross

Section 6.3 (Optional) This section shows methods of finding volumes by 
sshells or cylinders. An advantage over switching x and y variables necessary

AP STATISTICS ASSIGNMENTS FOR 2008-2009

LESSON #1
 Hand out syllabus and parent letter to be signed. Introdction of the use of 
the GDC. Read Chapter 1

Lesson #2
Chapter 2 What is data and the terms relating to data. Students will learnhow 
to enter data into their GDC and interpret the output from the home screen. 
Know the terms and concepts listed on pgs. 11 and12. Differentiate between 
categorical and quantitative data.

Lesson #3
Chapter 3 What are frequency tables? Marginal and conditional distributions 
on pg.21. Student will learn to differentiate between dependant and 
independaent variables. Simpson's Paradox is discussed. Announce quiz over 
chapters 2 and 3 at the end of the next class. The 5 W's, ASSIGN: #8 and #16 
from pg. 29-31.

Lesson #4 
Quiz over terms and concepts in chapter 2 and 3.Begin Chapter 4 on data 
distribution and the use of the GDC to determine shape center and spread. 
Instructions on how to do a histogram by hand and with the GDC. How to read a 
relative frequency chart.Read the STEP BY STEP explanation of the stem and 
leaf graph dot plot etc. Determination of outliers. ASSIGN:know terms on pg.

Lesson #5
Chapter 5. Introduction to box plots and the use of the GDC to construct a 
boxplot.Read mean, median and spread.ASSIGN: pg. 73 #4

Chapter 5 IQR and the 5 number summary.Student will learn the concept of the 
standard deviation and how to calculate it by hand.Learn the term in this 
section summarized on pg.71.Work through STEP BY STEP before working pg.73-74 
#'s 10,14. Announce quiz over Ch.4&5 at beginning of next class.

Quiz over chapters 4&5. Begin chapter 6.Introduction of Z scores and their

Chapter 6. STEP BY STEP in class using the boxplot to facilitate the 
interpretation and meaning of a data set. ASSIGN: pg. 101 #'s 11,12,26.

Exam over Unit 1 (chapter 2-6)

Lesson #10
Chapter 7. Scatterplots,association,& Correlation. The use of the GDC to plot 
data as a scatterplot. Obtain r values from the data set as a correlation of 
the 2 variables and obtain the linear regression equation from the GDC. 
Student shall describe the scatterplot of the data in terms of strength, 
linearity, direction and its association in context of the r value. ASSIGN: 
pg. 134, #14.

Lesson #11 
Chapter 8 Linear Regression. Will discuss the scatter plot and how it is used 
to obtain a linear model and predicted values. Learn residuals,and the slope 
of the regression line. b=rS(y)/S(x). No homework

Lesson #12
Chapter 8. Residuals and R^2, variation in residuals. In context, the meaning 
r^2 as the fraction of data variance accounted for bt the linear model. Pg.
