IB Class Information

Information for Vince Miller’s 6th Grade Honors IB Math Classes at Classen
School of Advanced Studies (2008-2009)

Class meets in Room A106. Textbook is McDougal Littell Middle School Math:
Course 2.

Graph paper is to be used for all homework and classwork unless otherwise
specified. The graph paper should be 8½" x 11" and pre-punched to fit in a
3-ring binder. Students should come to class with at least two (2) black-lead
pencils (sharpened by the time the bell rings). A pencil eraser will likely
be handy. Math work done in ink will not be accepted. Students should,
however, have 2 red ink pens (or pencils) available for occasional grading of
work.

A straight-edge (ruler) will be needed (measurements should be in both metric
and English units), as will a protractor. Calculators are not needed for this
class.

A math notebook is required; it should be a 3-ring binder, with dividers and
tabs. Tabs should be labeled as Benchmark Tests, Class Notes, Handouts,
Homework, Quizzes, Vocabulary, and Warm-ups. It is strongly suggested the
3-ring binder be a 2”, “D” ring binder.

Homework will almost always be assigned.

My grading policy and scale are as follows:

   Quizzes/Tests 80% A = 90% to 100%
   Homework 10% B = 80% to 89%
   Notebook 10% C = 70% to 79%
                                   D = 60% to 69%     F = 0% to 59%

If your student needs additional math help, I am usually at school until at
least 3:30 p.m. Tutoring (free) is also available from juniors and seniors
who are members of Mu Alpha Theta (a national mathematics honor organization
whose members have at least a “B” average in mathematics). Mu Alpha Theta
tutoring will begin in September and will meet after school (days to be
determined) in Room A308 until 3:30 p.m.
