About The Librarian/Media Specialist

Hi! My name is Barbara Davis and I am the Prairie Vale media specialist. I
grew up in St. Louis MO, married a Navy man, and began moving around the
United States. We’ve had the opportunity to live at Great Lakes Naval
Station in IL, in Pensacola, FL, Oakland, CA and San Diego, CA. This rich
experience means that each of our three children was born in a different
city. My husband Jon and I now live in Edmond.

Since I moved around quite a bit after I was married, I attended several
colleges and have had several career changes. My first degree was from
Meramec Community College in Nursing and I worked as a nurse for several
years. When I continued my education, I earned a BA in History from the
University of West Florida. After we moved to Edmond, I began volunteering
in the media center at my children’s school. I enjoyed working there so much
that I returned to school and earned my teaching credential as well as a
M.Ed. in Instructional Media from the University of Central Oklahoma.

My entire teaching career has been spent as an elementary media specialist
at Deer Creek schools. I have the honor of being a charter faculty member at
Prairie Vale and have been active on district committees and in the Deer
Creek Association of Classroom Teachers.

The idea of turning a child on to reading and information drives my day. I
have the privilege of working with the students from the first day of
kindergarten until they leave us after 5th grade for the middle school.
Finding just the right book for a child or locating that certain piece of
information gives me a great pleasure.

Objective: To develop lifelong learners and lovers of reading
