Reading

We are beginning a new reading series with Macmillan/McGraw-Hill and I'm excited! We have new books and new technology to look at and explore. Our Unit 1's theme is "Let's Explore" and that's just what we will be doing. Your child will be working on vocabulary, comprehension, fluencey, phonics, and much more. They will have workbook pages that are stapled together in their work folder that they had time to work on in class. If they did not get finished, they are to do so at home. They will not be due all at once! Please read their agendas so that you know exactly the pages that are due for the next day. Remember, they will be grading their own work at the beginning of reading class the next day so that they can hear the right answer and "learn from their mistakes". Sometimes these papers will take 2 weeks to go through, so even if you see a grade on the front, do not take them out of their "work folder" because the back pages might not be finished. You only get to "keep" the papers that are placed in the Monday folder.

 We will also be reading a class novel called BFG (Big, Friendly Giant) by Roald Dahl on Fridays and when we have extra class time.

*We have taken our Star Reading Test and our AR goals have been set. Please see your child's Monday folder for their goal and how they are doing each week.

I am very excited about Reading and I hope that you and your child will be too. I know that we are going to have a fun and exciting year in Reading!
