FAQMost Frequently Asked Library Questions
How do we know what is available to check out in the school library? Using any computer with Internet access, families can access the Library Catalog or OPAC by visiting the Media Center webpage at www.deercreekelementary.org. Click the button at the top of the Media Center page marked Library Catalog. If the student or parent wishes, he or she can log on to the catalog and reserve or hold books or write and submit book reviews. The log in button is located in the upper right corner of the page. Students will need to know their username and password in order to log in to the Library Catalog. How do I find out if a book is AR? Library books that are AR have a specific sticker placed on the spine and inside the front cover that indicates AR. You can find out if a book from home is AR by checking the AR list on our school's web page. You can link to this guide on my page under "links" as well. You can also check using our Library Catalog online. See instructions for accessing our online library catalog above. Can I get an AR quiz for a book that I have at home? If you have a book at home that we do not have in our library collection, you can purchase the quiz through the Media Center for $3 per quiz. The request form can be found on this site under "links" or on the Deer Creek Elementary site (www.deercreekelementary.org) under the Media Center tab. Note: We can only purchase quizzes that are available from Renaissance Learning and we are only allowed to purchase in groups of 25 or more. We will make every effort to order the quizzes you purchase as quickly as possible. For more information, call Mrs. Godfrey at 348-9100 x540 or email me at godfreym@deercreek.k12.ok.us. You can check to see if a quiz is available for purchase at the Renaissance site found on the "links" page of this site. Be sure to differentiate between our Renaissance collection and the Renaissance Learning website. How often does my child get to visit the Media Center? Each class visits the Media Center once a week for class check out or lesson time. Additionally, each student is allowed to visit the Media Center daily or as often as his or her teacher allows. Students visiting the Media Center can check out books and/or take AR quizzes. Students are also allowed to visit the Media Center for additional class enrichment projects, indepedent and group research projects, and quiet reading time. When is the Media Center open? The Media Center is open for the entire school day except for DEAR time. We open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 3:45 p.m. We do close during DEAR time so that students will spend that time reading in their classrooms. Can parents check out additional books for their children? Students are only allowed to check out two books at a time. We do not feel it is age-appropriate for students to be held responsible for more than two books. If you, as a parent, wish to check out more books for your child and agree to be financially and physically responsible for extra books, we will allow you to come in and check out additional books. |
