Hello, I'm Julie Griffin and I want to welcome you to a sensational Second
Grade year. I'm very excited and proud to be at Deer Creek Elementary! I am
a 1997 graduate of The University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors of Science
degree in Elementary Education and a minor in social studies. So, I guess
you might say that I am an avid Sooner Fan! And, even though I bleed
crimson and cream, I am occasionally a Cowboy's fan, although only by
marriage! My husband Ty graduated from OSU. So, I will cheer for both
teams, that is unless it's Bedlam, then it's "BOOMER!... SOONER!" for me!
This year will be my 9th year teaching. All but one of those years I've
taught 2nd grade. I previously taught 4 years in Tulsa; 1 year at Jenks
Southeast Elementary and 3 years at Cedar Ridge Elementary. And, after
staying at home for 3-1/2 years to be with our children, I took a position
teaching 3rd grade in OKC. Once I was back in the classroom, I knew how much
I missed being a Teacher, I really missed "teaching", I missed all of those
amazing "ah-ha!" moments and the look on a child's face when they learn
something for the first time. So, I applied for this position, and as they
say, "the rest is history". This will be my 4th year at DCES and I'm
ecstatic!
In the summer of 2002 Ty was promoted in his company, so we moved from our
hometown of Tulsa to Edmond. He sells pharmaceuticals and is a Hospital
Representative with Astellas Pharmaceuticals. He calls on the hospitals
here in the OKC area. We absolutely love it here and are happy to call
Edmond home!
We have 2 wonderful children, Tucker who is 7 and will be in second grade
this year at DCES, and Tatum who is 4 and very much looking forward to being
here at Deer Creek with us too. They both keep us very, very busy and VERY,
VERY entertained! Tatum can't wait to come to school with Mommy, she talks
about it all the time. :) She's dying to meet all of "Mommy's Classmates"
and become a Deer Creek Antler too.
I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you and can't
wait to have a wonderful year full of fun! We will be one busy group
learning and having a ball while doing it. It's going to be a year full of
fantastic and fascinating learning possibilities! Let's get started!
My mission for our class is for every child to not only learn to his or her
full potential but far beyond. We will be a very busy class with lots and
lots of hands on activities and lots and lots of fun and fascinating
learning experiences.
