Miss Phoebus comes to us from Virginia. She has performed and led color guards both in high school and University of Virginia. There will be clinics for next year April 22, 23, 24
3:30 – 5:00 at the Intermediate School Band Room. Auditions will be held April 25 3:30, Intermediate School Band Room.
Interested people need to mark your calendars now!
DIRECTOR’S NOTES:
What an exciting time we are now starting in on. There are so many events coming up for us, I wanted to take a few moments to make sure you know what and when things are happening. As each event approaches I will send out a special email detailing that particular event. I hope everyone had a fun, restful and enjoyable Easter weekend. Wind Ensemble will be having early band rehearsal every day this week and Monday of next week to prepare for State contest next Tuesday. Other events:
April 5th– 2013 drum line auditions: Anyone interested in marching on the Deer Creek Marching Drum line next season will need to audition April 5, 3:15, at the high school band room. Audition materials were passed out several weeks ago. See Mrs. Lockwood if you need another copy or have a question.
April 9th– Band Booster Meeting: Among the agenda items will be, planning for the upcoming Deer Creek Band Festival, Band Banquet, and next year. We need as many parents to come as possible as these events coming up require lots of help. There will be an agenda emailed soon. The meeting will be at 6:30 in the intermediate school band room.
April 10 – State Concert Band Contest: This will be held at Western Heights High School. We will leave at 7:30 am from the band room.
Symphonic band warms up: 8:30 performs: 8:55 sight read: 9:20
Wind Ensemble warms up: 10:10 performs: 10:35 sight read: 11:00
After which we will go to our traditional post contest meal at CiCi’s ($6.00)
Returning to school by 2:30pm
April 12 – 2013 Front Ensemble auditions: Anyone interested in playing in the Front Ensemble for marching season next year will need to audition 3:15, at the high school band room. Auditions materials were passed out several weeks ago. See Mrs. Lockwood if you need another copy or have a question.
April 13 – Deer Creek Band Festival:Many service opportunities abound on this day. Watch for email with details and begging uh, I mean listing for volunteers. We have 15 bands, and 6 full solo ensemble rooms going from 8:00am until 5:00pm. Over 600 students are expected.
April 16 – State Solo Ensemble Contest: Just received schedule today. Will get it published this week. We will be leaving from school at 11:00 am and should be home by 7:00 pm. First event performs at 2:20, last one at 4:55.
April 18 – Kansas City Contest: Information packets are being prepared as we speak. Details will be sent out soon. We will leave at 7:00am from high school band room, and return Sunday by 5:00 pm.
April 22 – 24 Color Guard Clinic: Anyone interested in auditioning for the 2013 Color Guard will need to come to the Intermediate School Band Room from 3:30 – 5:00 each of these days to learn audition.
April 25 – Color Guard Auditions: Intermediate School Band room 3:30 until finished.
April 24 – State Jazz Band Contest: Leave at 10:30 – return by 2:30
Contest is at UCO Student Union. Band warms up 12:30 performs 1:00. We will eat lunch before going to contest. Details later

CONGRAULATIONS TO THE BAND’S GPA OF 3.7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The band has won the OSSAA Outstanding Academic Achievement Plaque for the 5thstraight year! What I’m proudest of is that your GPA went up from last year’s 3.6 with 20 more people in the band! GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!
