(Sometimes until 6) There will be no rehearsals during fall break. Students cast in a show can miss only three rehearsals. Crew positions are available.
Spring Play: Into the Woods Jr.: Show times: February 9th, 10th, and 11th at 6:00 p.m. Auditions will be on December 1st. There will be no rehearsals during Christmas Break but cast is expected to be memorized on return of the break. Rehearsal Schedule is in the same format as the fall play. Crew Positions are available.
Drama Club: Drama club will meet 1-2 Wednesdays a month from 3-4:30. The first meeting will be on September 20th. The club will be using time to learn more about drama topics and practicing them. Students will vote on other projects throughout the year. A 10 Dollar donation is requested for annual dues.
Competitive Drama: This is a tournament held at Putnam city north high school on May 5th. It is optional for students to participate at the tournament. We will be using 6 weeks of class time to learn about competitive events and performing in class as well. All who wish to compete must return a drug release form to me by September 1st. You can decide you don’t want to compete at the tournament at anytime, however you will still be performing in class for a grade. Students who choose to do a prose or poetry will need black construction paper and page protectors for their performance.
Drama Academy Awards: The awards show will be honoring students for work completed throughout the year. There will be food and the drama club will decide on a theme for this event so we can dress accordingly. The Awards show will be on May 11th from 6 to 8-ish. Parents are invited to come and we may include a highlight of competitive performances that were successful at the tournament.
The Annual Deer Creek Talent Show: Try outs for the talent show will be on May 3rd. Students who make it will display their talents for the student body on the last day of school. This isn’t only a drama event but a school wide event.
New York City Trip: Each year students, in conjunction with the art students, get the opportunity to go on an educational tour of New York City. This is an unbelievable opportunity for our young people. This trip has guided tours through New York’s beautiful arts district, children will go to the Metropolitan Museum of art, see the statue of liberty and tour Ellis Island where the first immigrants were processed, as well as see two Broadway shows. This tour is in conjunction with other schools across the nation. The package includes the flight, all meals, hotels, tickets, and entry to all events. The trip will be the beginning of June, but start planning and sign up now to keep the trip cost low!
Parent Support Group: As you have noticed this is a very active and busy program. The need arises at times for an extra hand. This may be picking up Pizza, volunteering to host a cast party, helping out setting up for an event, building sets, finding costume pieces, collecting donations at plays, distributing food at the banquet, carpooling to competitive or other plays or just monitoring children backstage during a show. For all these reasons I have created the parent support group. If you would like to be notified to be a part of all these fun activities when you can, please sign up for the newsflash on my webpage called “Parent Support” or just e-mail me and I can add you to this list. Your support means so much to me and the kids!
**There is a possibility for more events to pop up throughout the year. Drama club is responsible for organizing other possible performances including: variety shows, skit nights, one acts, improv shows, ect…
