I grew up in Piedmont, Oklahoma and knew from a very young age that I
wanted to be a teacher. I attended The University of Central Oklahoma where I
obtained my Bachelor's Degree in English Education and I am certified to
teach 6th-12th grades.
This is my third year to teach 8th grade literature and my fourth year in
the Deer Creek district. I feel so blessed to teach in such a great
district with AWESOME students!
I have been married to my best friend, Andrew Flinton, for a little over
two years. Andrew is a Financial Advisor for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. We
are both very passionate about our work, but when we have spare time, we try
to spend it outdoors and always sqeeze in time for OU football. I also
love eating out, spending time with family and friends, reading, and
traveling.
I anticipate an exciting and challenging year!
The most important concepts that I want my students to acquire in my
subject area of Language Arts are to be literate citizens who develop a love
of reading and effective communicators that are able to convey their
thoughts and ideas both orally and in written form. These attributes are
extremely important in our ever-changing society and will continue to
influence every aspect of the student's life. Engaging learners involves
incorporating a wide variety of genres and context that inspires them to
read and holds their interest. My goal is to challenge students to be
independent thinkers and become critically engaged in classroom activities
that will connect them to their community and the world around them.
