Mrs. Steele's Sun Clan Wins The Gathering'!
 
    The Gathering, an all-day, sixth-grade activity based on the 
Stone Age, was held Friday, October 2, 2009. In a runaway victory,
Mrs. Steele's Sun Clan was declared the winner.

    Students were divided into twelve "Clans" and wore their tribe's 
color: the Desert Clan in orange, the Fire Clan in red, the Forest 
Clan in green, the Glacier Clan in light blue, the Island Clan in 
tie-dye, the Mountain Clan in gray, the River Clan in dark blue, the 
Star Clan in white, the Storm Clan in black, the Sun Clan in yellow, 
the Swamp Clan in camouflage, and the Volcano Clan in purple. 

    During The Gathering, students played a variety of individual 
and team-oriented games linked to our study of prehistoric times. 
The basic theme of the games was communication, cooperation, and 
competition. The morning games included the Fossil Food Fight, the
Critter Collection, Oglish, Pin the Tail on the Woolly Mammoth,
Nothin' But Net, Hunting the Herd, Bone Heads, Mog's Magic Beans, Top
Dogs, Tribal Togetherness, Dodo Dodgeball, and The River Raft. 

    There were also demonstrations of skills such as archery, 
rope-making, petroglyphs, cave art, primitive music and live animals.

    The afternoon All-Clan games included The Scrat Race, Passing the
Torch, and The Cave Crawl. The day ended with the announcement of the
winner.

    The sixth grade teaching team would like to thank the Deer 
Creek community, faculty, and administration for its continued 
support!
