The Factory

The Factory is an interdisciplinary culminating event for the fourth nine weeks of the sixth grade. It is scheduled on the last Friday of the academic year.

Demonstrations and activities this inaugural year included The Assembly Line, with a video, an actual work line and a test of the finished products; several modern Olympic track and field events (since the modern games were a direct result of the misery of the Industrial Revolution); a "Coal Mining" game; a short Disney Video on American IR hero, John Henry; and a "Slow-Food Court" of homemade foods.

In the coming years, the sixth grade faculty has discussed expanding The Factory to include student-generated projects. The focus will be on the 1700s and the 1800s, but may be extended to include the aircraft of the early 1900s. We also hope to include performances of work songs and folk music.

If you have any questions, please contact your student's science or social studies teacher for more details.
