Antlerborough Faire

    HEAR YE! HEAR YE!

The 11th annual Antlerborough Faire, our all-day sixth-grade
activity based on the Middle Ages, was held Friday, March 6.
The day started with the national anthem, "God Save the King,"
performed by the Sixth Grade Band.
The demonstrations included fencers, catapults, a Falconer, a
spinner-weaver, medieval games, and the student Guilds. Guild
members provided crafts and trinkets, medieval snacks, and
games-for-prizes.
"The Wizard of Antlerborough" (magician Steven Crawford)
returned to the Faire this year with many new tricks.
Lunch was provided, a repast that served roast chicken, chunk
cheeses and breads, with fresh grapes and apples for dessert, all
washed down with cider.
The chorus performed the medieval madrigal "Greensleeves," while
the orchestra offered the ballad "Scarborough Fair." King Richard
read "The Song of Roland."
Afternoon games included "The Dragon Fly" for the young men
and "The Pancake Race" for the young ladies.
The day was topped off by our honored guest Sir Barry Owens, a
professional knight, who spoke to the students about the Code
of Chivalry.
But the major highlight of the day was the costume contest.
[Students were strongly encouraged to attend the Faire in costume.]
A prize of 25 $1.00 coins was presented to the winner, while runners-
up were given a "Bag O'Goodies." The categories included best girl
and boy "Royalty," best girl and boy "Townspeople," and
most "Unusual" girl and boy.

Antlerborough Faire is our opportunity to "Set education back
1,000 years," and we appreciate your continued support for this
endeavour.
