| 6TH GRADE ACHEIVEMENT AWARDS
Each Friday is Achievement Day in class. Here students compete for
Achievement Awards. In the book there are lines titled "Essential Element
Quiz". Students who perform the assigned task given for each line, count
and finger, and then perform the line at an A level will get that award.
Students will be recognized at the Band Banquet for the number of awards
they acheive during the year. The student(s) with the most awards will be
crowned Achievement Champion and get special recognition.
7TH GRADE SCALE AWARDS
Each Friday is Scale Day in class. Here students compete for Scale Awards.
Each student during the week will be taught at least one of the 12 major
scales. On Friday, each student who performs their scale(s) perfect with
arpeggio gets the award. Once all 12 scales and chromatic scale have been
played off, the metronome will be set on 60. Here students will compete
with the metronome being raised 10 beats for each student who can perform
all scales with no mistakes. The student(s) who can do this the fastest
will be crowned Scale Champion and receive special recognition at the band
banquet.
HIGH SCHOOL AWARDS
JOHN PHILLIP SOUSA AWARD
This award is given to the outstanding senior as voted upon by the band
membership. This is the highest honor a student can receive. It recognizes
that student's achievements over the previous four years. The winner of
this award will receive a trophy, certificate, and a pin to put on their
band letter. Their name will also be displayed for years to come on the
plaque that hangs in the band room.
BAND DIRECTOR'S AWARD
This award is given to the outstanding student in the band as chosen by the
Band Director(s). The criteria is based on, but not restricted to,
individual achievement, participation, leadership, and musical ability. The
winner of this award will receive a plaque and their name will be enshrined
on the award plaque displayed in the band room.
PATRICK S. GILMORE AWARD
This award is given to the member of the band who has given not only to the
band, but has also given to the community at large. This student must be
an outstanding bandsman and also determined to be charitable of their free
time. Scouting, church work, community service, and/or school organization
service group membership are all good examples of activities of the person
who would receive this award.
LETTERING IN BAND
(Varsity Band)
Band letters will be awarded at the spring banquet to all students who meet
the following criteria:
1. No absences from required performances.
2. Perform the 12 major scales memorized in the normal range for his or her
instrument. (April 26, 2006 deadline)
And the student's choice of two (2) of the following:
1. Audition for an area honor band
2. Participate in an approved solo and/or ensemble contest.
3. Participate in basketball band with perfect attendance to games.
4. Participate in the pit band with perfect attendance to rehearsals and
performances.
