Our computer labs will be used for testing from April 13 – April 30. Our
classes will be working on this budget project during that time.
Each student will:
• Select a job appropriate for a college student
• Determine the salary based on the state pay scale
• Deduct 20% for taxes
• Use only your income to finance your lifestyles
• Choose necessities that must be purchased during a month’s time period
• Determine the cost for one month
• Develop a monthly budget
• Build a pie chart which reflects what percentage of your income is
spent on the various categories: household items, transportation, food,
entertainment, clothing, and savings
• Evaluate your spending
• Write a summary and reflection of your budget and what changes you
would make in your spending
Most of the project will be done in class. You have the freedom to use your
creativity to build and present your personalized budgets.
Grades will be determined in three segments and you will be evaluated on:
• Creating a budget
• Converting fractions to decimals to percents
• Calculating interest
• Creating a pie chart
• Written Summary – at least two paragraphs
