What are we studying right now?
SPELLING: We are working on the suffixes -ful and -less.
CORE KNOWLEDGE: We are learning about landforms and bodies of water within
North America. We are anticipating the arrival of our butterlies so we can
begin our unit over insects.
MATH: We are reviewing basic fraction concepts, learning how to use
fractions to name parts of collections, and finding parts of equivalent
fractions using fraction cards. We are continuing to reinforce 2nd grade
math skills through the use of Mountain Math in our classroom. Ask your
child about Mountain Math!
LANGUAGE ARTS: We are working with various types of verbs.
READING: We are writing compare and contrast stories in our guided reading
groups about different natural disasters (i.e. hurricanes, tornados, etc.)
while reading the Time for Kids story, Super Storms. We are working on
comprehension strategies and learning how to identify characteristics of the
non-fiction genre.
WRITING: We are creatively responding to the story Imogene's Antlers by
using the writing process. This project has taken a little longer than
normal, but the ideas generated have made it well worth it! We are finishing
up the final drafts and are making portraits of ourselves with our new body
part. It is so funny seeing the students draw themselves with wings, tails,
etc. We will be putting these on the hallway bulletin board once we are done.
TESTING: We are continuing to practice testing skills and strategies using
our Test Best test preparation book. We practice in this daily from 11:00-
11:15 a.m.
