Monday, October 26
I can't believe it's the last week in October! It is a really busy week with
Halloween festivities, Red Ribbon Week, centers, and report cards! We also
have conferences and Book Fair coming up next week. I have included a lot of
information in this week's newsletter. Please make sure you look for it in
your child's BEAR binder tonight. You will also find the conference sign-up
in there. I will schedule conferences on a first come, first served basis.
So, get them to me as soon as possible to get your first pick! If you are
unable to attend, please let me know so we can have a phone conference.
Have a great week, and enjoy your extra hour of sleep this weekend!

as busy in the weeks and months ahead. Here is an update of some things that
will be going on soon:

Treating. Feel free to stop by if you'd like! The costume parade is at 2:15
and parties are at 2:45.
*I had the due date for bringing pumpkins as this Thursday. I don't think
we'll do our pumpkin activities until the following week. So, please send
your pumpkins and the bottom half of the note (with weight and place
purchased) by Wednesday, October 28th. Anytime before that is fine, too.
Thank you! I hope you have a wonderful week!

Monday, September 28
It's field trip time! A note is coming home today in BEAR binders. This
will give you all the details. We'd love to have you as a chaperone! If you
decide to chaperone, you do not have to send any money in advance for
yourself. You will be able to buy your lunch and canal ride once we get to
Bricktown. We'll have a ton of fun!
Book orders are due this Friday. You can fill out your order form and send
it to school with a check. You can also order online now. I will place the
order Friday after school.
We have a math test tomorrow morning! Your child does not have homework, but
it would be a good idea to look over the math review with them. You may want
to quiz them over similar questions. The test mostly covers addition,
rounding, and estimating.
We're just moving right along in 3rd grade. I can't believe it's nearly
October!!! Progress reports will come out this Wednesday, and report cards
will come home after Fall Break.
I hope all is well on your end!
Have a wonderful week!

Tuesday, September 15
Good Morning! Can you believe we're already halfway through the first nine
weeks?! Time flies!
This week is a BUSY week! We have started centers this week. Each student
has visited 4 of their 7 centers. (There are actually 8 rotations, but each
student visits IRC twice.) Remember to have your child show you what they've
accomplished each day. However, they have to bring back their folders the
next day. We work on centers Monday - Thursday and do a folder check on
Friday. Once centers are finished (usually not until the 2nd week), students
will move them from the left pocket in their folder to the right pocket.
This will help keep them organized. Questions about centers? Look at the
Literacy Center Checklist in the yellow folder. If you're still not sure,
send me an email!
Highlights order forms are due this Friday. Please send them whether you're
ordering or not.
The October book order will be coming home soon. Please do not order your
child "Horrible Harry and the Dead Letters." I will be ordering them that
book for their Halloween present.
AR goals need to be reached by Fall Break (October 14th). I still have some
students who have not taken any AR tests. Please make sure your child is
reading each night for 20 minutes. They get 15-20 minutes of DEAR time here
each day. Plus, "Free Read" is a center this week. They have lots of
opportunities to take tests! I'll send an update on AR points next week.
I hope you all have a great week! Hopefully we will see some sunshine soon!

Thursday, September 3
Good Afternoon! I hope that you had a great day! It has been a busy week!
Here are a few reminders before our extra long weekend!
*I just wanted to remind you that tonight is Parent Night. I hope that you
will be able to attend one of the sessions. If not, I understand, and I will
send home a handbook with your child tomorrow.
*Remember there is no school on Monday.
*Ident-a-Kid will be at our school next Wednesday if you want to take
advantage of that. Notes came home in BEAR binders today.
*Next Tuesday, the 3rd grade teachers have decided against watching the
President’s video. If you would like to view the video at home the district
has provided a link for that on the main website.
*We are going to have an extra long Rendezvous on Tuesday to kick off Jog-a-
thon and Family Fun Night. Please be on the look out for notes detailing
those two events.
*I will not be here tomorrow, and I don't know when I'll have a chance to
check my email. I'll respond to any questions as soon as possible!
*ONE MORE THING – We are celebrating Grandparents Day at Rose Union next
Friday. 3rd grade will have a designated time for visits from those special
people in our lives. I will let you know more about that day soon.
I hope you all enjoy your Labor Day weekend!

Sunday, August 30
I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend! The weather has been awesome. My
husband and I spent some time here at school this weekend rebuilding the wall
ball court. My kids last year LOVED playing wall ball at recess. In fact,
they played so much that the wall just finally gave out. Hopefully, this
will provide another fun activity for the kids at recess!
I was very proud of how well everyone did on their spelling contract this
week! The first week is usually a little rough, but the students will learn
quickly what they need to get done and will learn to manage their time well
in class to avoid working at home. If you're still unsure about spelling, we
will talk about it (and all other curriculum) at Back to School Night.
Speaking of Back to School Night, it will be held this Thursday evening from
6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. All the 3rd grade teachers will present together in
one classroom. Due to space issues, we are asking for parents who have
students in Mrs. Crabtree's class and Mrs. Ganjanathavat's class to come to
the early session (6:30-7:15), and Mrs. Sevier's and Miss Rowell's parents to
come to the late session (7:30 - 8:15). We realize that some of you may not
be able to come at the specified time. If you can't, please come when you
can. We'd like everyone to be here!
I will not be at school this Friday. I hate to miss school so early in the
year, but I have to attend my cousin's wedding in Houston. Please make sure
you remind your child to be on their best behavior on Friday (and
everyday)! :) I'm a little anxious with it being so early in the year.
Thank you!
I hope you have a fantastic week!
Mrs. Sevier
Friday, August 24
Happy Friday! I hope your children had a wonderful first week of school.
I'm guessing they're about as worn out as I am! It always takes a week or
two to get back into the groove! Next week we will start on curriculum
(which most of the kids have been asking for all week) and that will help!
A book order note came home today in BEAR binders. It is due back by next
Friday. There was something I forgot to mention on the book order note.
There is a Scholastic Children's Dictionary for sale (I think it's $10).
It's the same one we use in our classroom. During the 2nd and 4th nine
weeks, your child will be using those dictionaries to write definitions of
their spelling words. It may be beneficial to buy and keep one at home.
That way, if they ever have to work on their definitions at home they'll have
the same dictionary. It's not a requirement, just a suggestion!
One more thing . . . I will begin sending out a weekly newsletter on Monday.
I'll include what we're doing in class all week, dates and reminders, snack
schedule, and specials schedule (so you know when to have your child wear
tennis shoes). If for some reason your newsletter doesn't make it home just
let me know, and I'll email you a copy.
Thanks for everything! Have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Sevier
Monday, August 17
It was so nice to meet each of you today. I hope you are looking forward to
tomorrow as much as I am. Please come straight to the room tomorrow and
Wednesday. Beginning on Thursday, you will go outside to the playground if
the weather is nice or the gym if it is too cold or rainy. We will have
Rendezvous every Monday and Friday starting next week.
I'm sure you have lots of other questions to ask about third grade!
Hopefully, we will get them all answered this week.
Get a good night's sleep and I will see you in the morning!!
Mrs. Sevier
Sunday, August 16
Welcome to 3rd grade! I can't wait to meet you on Monday morning. Please
bring your supplies if you have purchased them. If you ordered through the
school your supplies will be waiting for you. Enjoy your last day of summer
vacation!!
