By Deer Creek district standards, your child should have no more than 40
minutes of homework a night in addition to their 20 minutes of required
reading. What we assign will generally take 10-20 minutes. Your child will
have math homework each night, Monday-Thursday, unless we have a test the
following day.
Your child will be provided ample time in class to complete their spelling
and literacy centers. If they use the time wisely they should not have
homework in these subjects. However, they may choose to take the work home
in order to finish or extend their assignments. That is their choice. A
checklist for their spelling contract will be provided weekly. This will
allow you to check their progress during the week. All spelling assignments
will be due on Fridays. A literacy center checklist will be provided every
three weeks. This will help your child to see their own progress and assist
in time management. Centers are due every third Friday.
We will dicuss all of this at length at Back to School night on September
