Sight word activities *Copy sight words on note cards (one word per card) *never ask your student to sound them out. They are sight words they cannot be sounded out student must know them by sight. *you can include high frequency words that your child still struggles with like: the & and or words that are confused with one another like: saw & was, for & from *try to practice sight words everyday. It doesn’t need to take a long time, and older brothers and sisters can help. 1.Flash students cards one at a time. Put correctly read cards in one pile and incorrect cards in another. When finish count the correct cards and graph the # correct on a piece of graph paper. Do this at least once a week so the child can see their own progress. 2.Put flash cards on table or floor face up. Call out a sight word and have the child find the card. When the child finds the card they can pick in up and make a pile in front of them. Continue until all the words are found. 3.Lay sight word cards on floor face up. Sit and flip Tiddly Winks on them the card that the Tiddly Wink lands on has to be read. *Can be played with 2 people taking turns assign sight words points before the game starts ("through" may be 4 points, while "of" may be 1). If they land on a card and read it correctly, they get that number of points. The person with the most points wins. 4.Have a word of the day. If you are going somewhere, pick a sight word to be the word of the day. Have your child carry around that sight word card and have them point out to you any time they see that word whether on billboard, store sign, etc. 5.Click on "Practice what we learn in class" on this webpage and do the power point version of our sight words. *Reminder- Sight words must be memorized. Your child needs to see the word many times in order to be memorized
