10 Ways Busy Parents Can Encourage Reading

Place a variety of books and magazines around your home. Urge kids to look through them often.

Bring books on errands and trips -in the car, on the bus, to the doctor, to the store, to relatives' homes, etc.

Have your kids read books to you while you prepare dinner or fold laundry.

Provide reading suprises. Let your kids stay up a little late to finish a chapter or read by flashlight.

When you read the newspaper, have your kids sit with you and read the comics.

Go to the library regularly. Bring paperwork or pay bills while your kids look at books

Ask your kids to read recipes to you as you cook.

Encourage your older kids to read to younger siblings.

Give your kids books or magazine subscriptions as gifts.

Limit TV viewing to make more time for reading.
Remember- A love of reading leads to success. The more time your kids spend reading, the better.
