Parents,

I can’t believe it is Feb. 6!  The first week of February is almost gone.  The weather is gorgeous and the kids are doing great.  Life is good!  I was looking back on my lesson plans from last year and thought I was way ahead but then realized I had to put everything back last year because of snow.  It doesn’t look like we will be having that problem this year.

This week we will be busy, busy, busy.  The following is what we will be working on in class:

Phonics: We will be introduced to Bossy R (ar, ir, er, ur and or).  This will take up our whole week.

Math:  We will continue money, time, addition and subtraction.  We will also be discussing how to make numbers 11-20 (10 and 1 more, 10 and 10 more).

Homework:  I am sending home spelling practice and money practice.  It is due on Friday.  Please practice reading with your kids at night.  We will have our next DIBELS testing in March.  They will have to be reading at least 47 words per minute.  Which may sound easy but they are pretty hard words and only get 1 minute to read them.  When practicing have them read faster each time.  Thanks!

Parents,

What awesome weather!!!!  It has been a great week-end.  I hope you all have found time to enjoy each other!  I can’t believe January is halfway over.  May will be here before we know it and your babies will be 2nd graders.

Even though it is a 4 day week, we are going to be busy.  We will have our spelling test on Friday as usual.  We will also be working on the following:

Phonics: suffixes –less, -ness, and –ly, digraphs “ai” and “ay” and we will have 3 readers that will practice the use of these words in sentences.  I will send them home with some of the kids, please practice them.  You may read those in lieu of RAZ kids.  If they don’t come home with the readers, please practice on RAZ kids nightly.

Math: We will continue practicing addition.  Next week, we will begin subtraction.

Homework:  I will send home spelling words and rocket math for homework.  Remember  you have until Friday to hand it in to me.

We will continue our winter words of the day.  We will also continue studying winter and snow.  I will also introduce a unit on Martin Luther King Jr.

Please remember to practice the musical lines every night.  I want my class to be prepared!!  We do practice at school as well.  If you need another copy of your child’s lines, let me know.

Thank you to you all, you are the best!!

WELCOME BACK!!!!!

We are off to a great start!  The kids picked up where we left off and I couldn't be prouder of them.  Thank you to you all.  I couldn't do my job without your support.  Pat yourselves on the back.

This week we will be working on the following;

Math- We will continue rocket math practice, adding and doubles facts.

Phonics- tricky y (I am sending home a paper explaining what the letter y sounds like within words), compound words and trigraph -igh.

We started a winter word of the day project.  Everyday we will look at a new word and talk about what it means, use it in a telling sentence and an asking sentence.  Once we have completed each word, I will send them  home.

We will also be studying the season winter.  We will even be "growing" a snowflake in class. The students learn while exploring.  There are so many things to talk about that have to do with winter so be looking for those things to be coming home over the next few weeks.

Also, this is a reminder, our 1st grade musical is January 26.  They will perform at school during the day and then come back in the evening for open house and performance.  Some information has been sent home.  If you did not receive it please let me know and I will send it to you.

If you have any questions please let me know!!
