Week #39 - Last Week of School

Dear families,

I can hardly believe that it is the last week of school!  Wow ..... and what a year it has been!  Your child/grandchild has worked hard this year!  In fact, in some cases, harder than he/she has ever been asked to work before.  Thank you for your help, encouragement, and support at home.  Without those ingredients, progress and success is always minimalized.  My suggestion is that the kids (and their families) take the month of June off.  But when July rolls around, I would encourage 20 minutes of reading a couple of times each week AND multiplication math facts a couple of times each week be brought back into their routine.  It is amazing how quickly they will forget their math facts without continued practice.  Fourth grade will hit the multiplication/division math chapters in September, so those who come back to school with refreshed math fact skills will be way out in front of those who did not practice before the new year begins.

We will be celebrating this last week of school with a few fun events.  Thursday, May 17th is Game Morning and Movie Afternoon/Pig Out Party.  Students can bring their favorite non-eletronic games from home to play with their friends.  In the afternoon, we will celebrate the conclusion of our literature book, Where the Red Fern Grows, by watching the DVD of the book.  The movie is rated G.  Students are asked to bring their favorite junk food to share with the class while we watch the show.  Drinks and papergoods will be provided.  Then on Friday, May 18th, the students CAN bring their electronic games to play during the morning.

Just a curtosy reminder, especially this last week of school ........ if your child will be checking out early, I always appreciate a heads-up visit, note, or an email so that your child can be packed up and ready to go when the office call comes in.  This will save un-necessary interruptions.  Thank you very much.

Through the tape,
Mrs. Gentry
