Raising a Reader Program

Dear Family,

After Fall break, your child will be bringing home a book bag with four books for your family to enjoy!  Please read or look at the books with your child every day!  Setting aside a special time—even 10 minutes each day—is a wonderful way to enjoy each other’s company and create a lifelong love of reading.  Read each book again and again.  Young children love reading and hearing  stories over and over.  Talk about each book.  Talking about books and re-reading will help your child become more familiar with words and develop a love of language.

In the bag you will find:

A parent contract (Please read, sign and return with bag.)

A video on reading aloud and suggested activities (Please watch and return with bag.)

4   books to read and share with your child

The Bags will come home on Tuesday and be due on Monday.   Also include a drawing of your child's favorite story.  Write the title on top of page, label their pictures and write a sentence about the story.   This is counted as a homework grade.

It is important that bags are returned on time, since the bags are shared among all the students.

The name of the program is Raising a Reader.  It is funded by a grant from PSO.  We are very excited to be a part of the program and thank you for your partnership as your child develops a love of reading!

Sincerely,

Flower Mound Pre-K staff
