50 Essential Steps to Success in Pre-K
1. Follow directions the first time they are given.
2. Use your time wisely. Remember that there is a time to work and a time to play.

AND YOU WILL HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!
3. Please use a soft voice when you are inside the school building.
4. When in transition from one activity to another, please walk & make a quiet change.
5. Take care of class materials and put them in their proper places when you are finished with
them.
6. Learn the names of other teachers and school personnel and greet them by saying things
like, "Good Morning, Mrs. Sanders" or "Good afternoon, Mr. Kingery." Please do not speak to
adults if you are in line with the rest of the class because the no-talking rule is in effect--
just wave politely.
7. When responding to an adult, you must answer by saying "Yes Sir" or "No Ma'am."
8. Turn and face the person who is speaking and make eye contact.
9. You have permission to talk when:
* You raise your hand, and the teacher calls on you.
* You are asked a question and you are responding.
* You are playing at recess.
*You are seated at lunch.
* You have the teacher's permission
(for example, during group work or center time).
10. If you are asked a question, please respond politely.
11. Please respond to questions with complete sentences.
12. When someone is speaking and makes a mistake, do not be disrespectful by quickly pointing
out an error they may have made. Give the person time to correct the mistake and remember, “If
you can’t make a mistake, you can’t make anything.”
13. Show respect for other students' ideas and opinions.
14. Always say thank you when someone gives you something, and please never make a negative
comment about the gift.
15. Always show RESPECT for others. Do not show disrespect with gestures like rolling your eyes,
smacking your lips, etc.
16. When an adult signals to "give me five" you should:
* Stop talking.
* Look at the speaker.
* Listen carefully.
* Place your hands in your lap or by your side.
* Keep your body still.
17. If you are the door greeter and someone knocks or rings the doorbell, please open the door,
shake hands, tell the visitor your name, and welcome him/her to the classroom.
18. If any teacher in the school is disciplining a student, please do not stare at or get near
that student. If you are being disciplined, do not look away or talk to other students.
19. Follow all school and classroom procedures.
20. Make every effort to be as organized (neat and tidy) as possible.
21. If you have a substitute teacher make every effort to do your best.
22. If someone bumps into you, say, "Excuse me," even if it is not your fault.
23. When you meet new people, shake hands, and tell them your name.
24. Always be honest and admit when you have done something wrong.
25. When you win, do not brag; and when you lose, do not show a bad attitude.
26. Please do not ask for a reward for good behavior, academic performance, or other act worthy
of praise. Always do your best and someone will catch you doing good and reward you as needed.
27. Always turn your head away from others when you sneeze or cough or burp, and cover your
mouth with your hand. Then say, "Excuse me."
28. Keep your school supplies, money and other personal items put away and only get them out
when you have permission of the teacher.
29. Tell an adult when you or anyone else is physically hurt or bleeding. If not, use your words
and talk through your problems with other people. Make sure to REPORT to keep friends OUT OF
DANGER. Please do not TATTLE to get them IN TROUBLE.
30. Be responsible for your trash no matter where you are and do not litter.
31. When reading together in class, please sit and listen quietly and do not be a distraction to
others.
32. Put your happy face on and enjoy everything you do at school.
33. Work assigned during group time needs to be completed quickly and quietly. Always do your
best!
34. Use good manners when you are in the big building. Keep fingers on lips and voices off in the hallways. Other classes are learning.
35. Take turns at the drinking fountain. You may use a paper cup to get a drink if you wish.
36. Whenever you are offered food by an adult, never take more than your fair share.
37. When you are entering a room, bus, or door wait for others to exit before you enter.
38. If you come to a door and someone is following you, hold the door open and allow the other
person to walk through first.
39. When entering a room or building where people are gathered, go in so quietly that no one
will even notice that you are there.
40. If someone drops something, pick it up and give it back to him or her.
41. During school programs, sit still on your bottom with your feet criss-cross in front of you.
Do not talk, and do not try to get the attention of your friends.
42. Walk in a straight line right behind the person in front of you. Keep your arms by your
side, face forward at all times, and please walk quietly.

43. Go to the end of the line unless you are the leader or the helper. The leader can be first
in line and the helper can be second. The helper will be our door holder then will take their
place at the back of the line.
44. While you wait to be loaded in your car, please use quiet voices so you can hear your teacher's instructions.
45. Use your best manners and show respect by listening to your
teacher, leader or parent helper.
46. Always thank the parent helpers for coming to school and helping for
the day.
47. Flush the toilet and wash your hands after using the rest room.
48. During recess:
* Play in our designated areas.
* Follow the procedures for playing on the equipment.
* Share the playground toys and supplies.
* Play gently without touching others.
49. Accept that everyone makes mistakes, so learn from your mistakes and do not get
upset. "Mistakes are okay as long as you learn from them."
50. Be the best person that you can be and follow the golden rule.
"Treat others the way you want to be treated."
