About The Teacher

My name is Kathy Young. This will be my 14th year to teach at
Indian Meridian Elementary. I graduated from the University of Central
Oklahoma with a B. S. degree in Early Childhood Education. I began my
career at Indian Meridian Elementary as a Kindergarten teacher. I
taught Kindergarten for two years, first grade one year, third grade six
years and am very happy to be teaching Pre-K. I have loved every grade I
have taught, but young children are my very favorite!
I have been married to my best friend, Al for twenty-five years. We
have two daughters. Our oldest daughter, Stephanie, is a recent graduate of
East Central University with a Marketing Degree. Our youngest daughter,
Jennifer, is a Senior at East Central Universtiy majoring in Biology with
plans to go to PA school next year.
I love to vacation in the mountains with my husband, read wonderful
books, talk a lot, and shop with my girls.

Philosophy of Education

As a teacher and a parent, I remember how difficult it was to keep up
with school work, family life, and a career. Our Pre-K is here to serve
families and to foster cooperation between home and school. Many times pre-
k will be a child's first experience in an academic or social setting. Our
classroom is designed to help transition children from home to school. We
will have a kind, caring classroom where students will feel safe and loved.
Students will respect each other.
Some additional beliefs I have are:
1. I believe that all children can and will learn in our classroom family.
2. Teachers and children will be held to high standards. Our Pre-K family
is a place where others are valued and treated with respect.
3. Children need an education that is developmentally appropriate. Our
activities are planned in a way that will interest young children while
engaging their imaginations.
4. Teachers will teach not only educational goals, but responsibility.
Students will develop the self-confidence to express themselves to their
classmates and teachers.
5. Children need many learning opportunities when gaining concepts. They
need to experience different social roles and to work as a member of a group
and community.
7. Each child is a gift from God. Therefore, we all come to school with
different talents and skills.
8. Each child has a unique abiltiy to learn. Our classroom will foster the
excitement of learning and give the desire to be life-long learners.
9. Each child has the right to learn in a safe and secure environment.
10. Parents are your child's first and most important teachers. It is my
goal to supplement your teaching. I will assist your family in whatever way
I can. I love contact with families in the way of conferences, volunteers,
e-mails, notes, etc.
