What time is lunch? Can parents come have lunch with their child?
We will be going to lunch around 11:15 each day. The time will vary when your child is seated as five second grade classes take turns being first in line. If you would like to purchase a tray lunch I would recommend paying for the lunch early (11:10) and then waiting for our class so that the lunch line can proceed smoothly.Back to Top

How often and how many library books can my child check out?
We will usually go to the library each day and each child may check out two books each day if he/she returns the books previously checked out. I do ask the children to pick at least one book of their two choices with a 'colored' dot (based on reading level).Back to Top

How many books should my child read this year?
Please remind your child to read as many books as possible. However, it's not as important how many books your child reads as it is important how much he reads. The amount of time that parents devote to reading at home makes a huge difference in their child's reading skills and enthusiasm for reading, not only this year, but in the following grade levels. I will be sending home a reading log for you to put the time that your child spends reading at home. They must be turned in every Monday.Back to Top

How often should I expect homework?
You should read at least 20 minutes and do 10 minutes of math facts daily with your child, and practice weekly spelling words. I do not assign homework but if an assignment is not completed in class it is taken home for homework and returned the next day.Back to Top

Can I help in the classroom?
As our reading skills are developing I would love to have as many parents as possible 'reading' individually with our students. If you can come 1 hour per week I would love to have you. Please send a note if you are interested.Back to Top

How can I help my child at home?
READ, READ, READ! You can also reinforce what we are learning in class by asking your child questions about school and discussing their learning with them. When you converse with your child you are developing their language and cognitive(thinking) skills which will relate to and improve all other areas. Another great way to help is to set an area for homework and 'show' them that it is important to learn.Back to Top
