NAME: Ms. Prather

SCHOOL: LAKEHOMA ELEMENTARY

CLASS: FIRST GRADE

SCHOOL PHONE: 405-376-2409 EXT.2018

About The Teacher

This is my 32nd year to teach at Lakehoma. I was the Media
Specialist for the first three years that Lakehoma was open. I then moved to
First Grade and have been there for 29 years.

I graduated from Claremore High School in Claremore, Oklahoma (Home of Will
Rogers and the Claremore Zebras). I then moved to Stillwater and graduated
from Oklahoma State University in 1978. GO POKES!!

My family consists of my parents who still live in Claremore (in the house
we grew up in), my brother and his family. I adopted a new little
miniature schnauzer named Skittles. He is 5 years old. My nephew Micah chose
that name for "our" puppy.

My brother John lives in Texas and he has 3 precious boys that I adore. My
oldest nephew is 14 and is now a Freshman, my middle nephew is 12 and
is in Seventh Grade and the youngest one is 9 and is in Fourth Grade.

My nephew Derek is a Boy Scout working on his Eagle rank. He spent a week
at Boy Scout camp in Florida in June.

Kendall begins his third year as a Boy Scout. He also attended the Boy
Scout Camp in Colorado in June.

Micah is beginning his fourth year as a Cub Scout. All the boys enjoy
scouting. My brother is a Boy Scout leader and they all enjoy doing this
together.

In January,2004 my only niece, Lauren was born in Texas. She is
now five years old and into everything! She loves to dress up
and have tea parties. She will start Kindergarten this fall. She also
loves to shop...she got that from me!! We have fun at Penn Square Mall.
After 3 boys, it is certainly different having a niece! We do
have fun with her though and I certainly am not in the least bit biased
about any of my niece or nephews!! They are all perfect and if you don't
believe me, just ask! :-)

I received my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from OSU and in
November of 2000 received National Certification as an Early Childhood
Generalist.

I am active in our Mustang Education Association, serving as past
President and as Treasurer this year. I am on the Oklahoma Education
Association's Instructional and Professional Development committee. I was
selected to be on a National Education Association committee that
deals with technology and online Professional Development. This committee
has met several times and I am fortunate to have traveled to Chicago,
Minneapolis and San Francisco for the meetings. The work we are doing is
brand new and is exciting to be a part of.

I was a teacher/member of the committee to develop a policy regarding the
use of religious symbols, materials and activities for our school district.
This was an interesting committee and I believe our work was successful. You
have probably heard about the "nativity" controversy in Mustang a few
Decembers ago. This policy is a direct result of that problem and sets new
guidelines to hopefully prevent anything like this in the future.
