items that organisms need to survive and 5 traits of all organisms and then 
look up the definition of organism.  

Fri, Aug 31- BW- New definition for biodiversity; Check Bellwork II, Living 
& Non-living and Biodiversity FQR 
thur- BW-define Biodiversity; Asmt- Biodiversity FQR (8 facts, 4 qu's and 3 
responses)
Wed- BW-Define the term "life", Distinguish between Living and Non-living by 
listing traits of each on a t-chart, discuss student ideas.
Tue- BW-Create a one sentence summary for scientist stereotype; Check 
scientist picture and Scientist description.  
MOn, Aug 27- BW- Calculate percentages using part/whole= percent
asmt- create bar graph using gender percentagess, Check last weeks' bellwork

  Asmt- Fill in chart using data compiled by the class
Thur- BW- Draw a scientist at work (based on your mental image of a 
scientist), describe the scientist you drew (gender, ethnicity, age, work 
setting and job description).  
Wed: BW- finish setting up sci. notebook  Asmt: notes over rules and 
procedures, Name game.
Tue: BW- Number the odd pages in sci. Notebook (#1 on front of first page 
and then 3,5,7,-51, Set up science notebook- Use markers to print name (big) 
on front cover (also include rm #, teacher name, science), Inside Front 
cover:  Macro to Micro (big) & 1st 9 wks, Student freestyle decoration on 
back cover, last pages of notebook has info- teacher e-mail, webpage and 
student e-mail addresses.   
Mon, Aug 18: Bellwork- What are physical characteristics?  
Assignment- List as many physical characteristics of the 2 rocks as you 
can.  Use the list to Compare and contrast the 2 rocks using a Venn diagram 

Fri, Aug 17: Bring supplies to 1st hr, put notebook paper in locker, write 
name on all 4 spirals, keep 1 and leave in table tub, put extra 3 in cubbies 
under the correct hr, create a positive adjective for your 1st or last name, 
get assigned seat, go over a few procedures.
Thur, Aug 16:  Sleep in, ride a bike, go swimming...etc.



Students:  Check w/ teacher before doing bonus for clarification and 
approval of what you plan to do.

Bonus opportunities- Articles cut out and summarized from the newspaper, the 
internet, magazines...etc; nice homemade posters of something we are 
studying; brief demonstrations of something we are studying and an 
explanation of the scientific principle behind the demo, reports on 
scientists mentioned in our science books; something that helps out the 
entire class:  Ex- cleaning out snake cage, helping out in the room in some 
way; Arrange a guest speaker (for your class or to speak to all Mr. Morrow's 
classes) who works in a science career or specializes in something we 
study.
