About ELL

In ELL class, we work on activities to increase listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Goals for the class

The goal for ELL class is to help your child be the best student he/she is
capable of being, so that knowing two or more languages is a blessing, not a
detriment to succeeding academically.

About the Teacher

Lu Dora Overmon - ELL

What a wonderful challenge is set before me!  I have the privilege of working with students who have another language in their homes.  The aim is to help students gain complete control of the English language so that they will be the best students they are capable of being.  That way, knowing two or more languages is a blessing, not a detriment, to achieving academic success.  I am filled with joy when students' faces light up with understanding.

I was born and raised and graduated from high school in Hollis, Oklahoma, where many family members still live.  I have degrees from Oklahoma Baptist University (bachelor of science) and the University of Central Oklahoma (masters) in education and in teaching English Language Learners.

My husband is the chaplain at a physical rehabilitation hospital.  I have four adult children, two sons and two daughters-in-love, who live in Texas and Georgia.  My husband and I enjoy tent camping and working in our yard. We have a rat terrier named Frodo Barkins (alias Mr. Energy) and a black cat.

I have nineteen years teaching experience and have been at Mustang Creek Elementary School since the day it opened.  I'm a traveling teacher and am enjoying working at Centennial Elementary, also, in its second year of operation.
