Happy Holidays! Here are some important up-coming events!

Our class is participating in the Christmas Toy Drive at Creek to benefit
children in our area. We will be collected toys for a child that would be
around the age of a 5th grader.
Please join us in giving an unwrapped new toy. If you would rather send a toy
for another school age that is fine too. Toys need to be brought to school by
Wed. December 16th. Thank you in advance for your help!

Do you love a FREE MEAL? Our PTA is sponsoring a
Toy Drive/Spaghetti Dinner on Monday, December 7th at 6:30 p.m. in the Creek
Cafeteria. EACH PERSON WHO BRINGS A NEW
UNWRAPPED TOY WILL RECEIVE A FREE SPAGHETTI DINNER! Please R.S.V.P. to me
with # of people by Friday.

We are planning a book exchange within our class on
Monday, December 21st. The idea is to have a “Read In”
and P.J. party starting with a paperback book present exchange. I am
asking that each child bring a new/or very gently used wrapped paperback
chapter book to school on or before Monday morning, December 21st. Girls
should bring their wrapped paperback chapter book marked: To a girl, From:
(your child’s name), and boys should bring their paperback chapter book
marked: To a boy, From: (your child’s name).
We will then exchange presents, and begin our “Read In” and Pajama
Party for the morning. Pajamas will need to follow our dress code and
slippers are allowed in the classrooms only. Each child is invited to bring
a pillow and/or blanket to lie around on the floor for this fun time. OVER----
By giving books as presents, we are reinforcing the importance of
reading. This will also be a great time to read and take AR tests before the
break! December 22nd is the last day to meet their AR goal of reading 3
Chapter books and 2 quick – read books and have an 85% AVERAGE on their AR
TESTS. We will celebrate their goals after the break.
If you are not sure what kind of book to buy for the book exchange
just ask your child what he or she enjoys! Mysteries, sports, and series
books are always a sure bet. Give me a call if you need any ideas. Thank you
for your help! It is sure to be a day that your child will enjoy!
Our Winter Class Party will be on Tuesday, December 22nd from 1:30-2:30
p.m. I will have some of the homeroom parents call the people who signed up
to help at the beginning of the year. If you would like to help or didn’t
get to sign up and would like to bring something, please let me know. Please
send the snacks with your child that morning or you are welcome to drop-in at
the party, it should lots of fun!
In the spirit of the season…
This is a great time of the year to tell the people who are close to you how
much you care about them. Your children are all so special to me. They are
like a second family to me! We go through a lot of life experiences in our
school day from scraping a knee, sharing a laugh, or learning the right way
to work a problem. I love each of your “babies”, even though they wouldn’t
want to be called that! Your children are all unique and special in many
different ways. I am blessed to be involved in their lives. I look forward
to all the exciting things that 2010 will bring to our classroom.
Have a blessed and very Merry Christmas,
Mrs. Pennington
