April 9, 2012
This week in reading we will be learning about ly and ful suffixes and the ‘oo’ sound in words. By the way, we
talk about ‘oo’ making two sounds hook (short) and moon (long). We will continue to learn about using
adjectives while we write to make our writing more interesting. In math, we have started our unit on geometric
shapes and their attributes, and we already have some shapes for our museum! This is a really fun unit that
the students love.
Temperature in our classroom…it tends to be cold in our classroom. You may want to send a light
jacket to school with your child for use at different times throughout the day.
Upcoming Dates:
Mon., April 30, McTeacher Night, 5-8pm

Fri., May 18, Super Kids Day
Thurs., May 24, Last Day of School
Thanks for taking the time to come to conferences! I enjoyed meeting with each of
you! I was speaking with a co-worker just today about how much these little guys
and gals have grown and how proud I am of them. I really appreciate you supporting
our efforts at school and working with your children at home! It makes a huge
difference!
Please keep reading those books at home. Book logs are due by the end of each month. It makes
an incredible difference in the reading success of those students who read daily for at least 20
minutes – 15 if your child is struggling.
LIBRARY BOOKS…please make sure your child brings them daily. We are doing a lot of
silent sustained reading in preparation for 2ndgrade. This is an extremely important skill.
