I grew up in Shawnee, Oklahoma. I attended college at Oklahoma Baptist
University, where I received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I
also met my husband, Eric, at OBU. After graduation the US Marine Corps
moved us to Fredericksburg, Virginia. (My husband was in training at
Quantico.) Next we lived in Virginia Beach and eventually ended up on the
tiny island of Okinawa, Japan.
I taught one year of 4th grade while living in Okinawa. I would have taught longer, but my son, Kyle,
was born. I decided to stay home and enjoy spending time with him. We moved back to the states
when he was about 15 months old. Two months later my daughter, Molly, was born in Lawton,
Oklahoma. While in Lawton I attended classes at Cameron University to receive an endorcement to
teach Middle School Math.
In 1998 my husband left the Marines to work for Edward Jones here in Mustang. I went back to
work as a substitute teacher and then a daycare teacher. I also served for a couple of years as the
Childhood Ministries Coordinator for Chisholm Heights Baptist Church in Mustang. But,
teaching called me back to the classroom.
In August of 2001 I resumed teaching at Mustang Creek Elementary. My first
year I taught 4th grade. After that I moved to 2nd grade. In the fall of 2007 I moved to 2nd Grade at
Mustang Elementary, and this year I have moved to 3rd grade.
Each summer I try to attend at least one workshop, and usually I manage to
fit in two. I enjoy attending these workshops not only to learn the latest
and greatest about education, but also to learn more fun activities for the
students in my classroom. I love the fun stuff!
In June of 2006 I went back to school to aquire a Masters of Arts in
Educational Leadership. I graduated in May of 2008 and added the
category of Elementary Principal to my Certification.
I enjoy reading, playing the flute, quilting, scrapbooking, walking,
attending church, and spending time with family and friends.
The mission for my class is that they learn to "love learning." My desire
is that every student becomes a happy, healthy, loving adult who is
determined to make the world a better place for others.
