Mission Statement:
Overholser Overtones exists to provide 4th and 5th grade students with the opportunity to sing quality choral and theatrical music. Students in Overtones should expect to receive advanced training in both vocal development and musicianship skills (reading rhythmic and tonal patterns).
Rehearsal Schedule:
Rehearsals will being promptly at 3:15pm on Thursday, September 10th. Students will be expected to go to the restroom prior to coming to the music room and should do so promptly after the school's second bell rings. Upon entering the room, students should place their backpacks under their chairs and quietly take a seat. Please keep food, beverages, and gum out of the music room; water bottles will be acceptable. Students will be dismissed at 4:30pm and will need to be picked up immediately. Students repeatedly without a ride at dismissal could be cause for removal from the chorus.
Attendance:
Members of Overtones are expected to be at each rehearsal and performance. If an absence is unavoidable, please write a note or email (krobertson@putnamcityschools.org) Mrs. Robertson since choir attendance is handled separately from office attendance. Excuses absences are limited to reasons of family emergency or illness. Three unexcused absences will result in removal from the chorus.
Performances:
Students will be expected to attend all performances. An unexcused absence (reasons other than a death in the family or sickness) to any performance will result in removal from the choir. Sporting events are NOT an excused absence unless approved by Mrs. Robertson. Below is a list of performances for the year:
Wednesday, November 11th - Veteran's Day Program (9:30am in Cafeteria; Informal Attire)
Thursday, November 12th - West Fest (6:30pm at PC West; Formal Attire)
December - Winter Concert (Time and Location TBA; Formal Attire)
Saturday, April 17th - OCDA Elementary Festival (Time and Location TBA; Formal Attire)
Thursday, May 13th - Dinner Theater (6:00pm in Cafeteria)
Behavior and Grades:
Students will be expected to maintain classroom behavior during choir rehearsals. If the student is asked to leave chorus rehearsal three times, he or she will be removed from chorus. Also, students with behavior programs in their regular classrom or at rehearsals and/or performances off the school's campus will be removed from chorus.
In addition, students must maintain passing grades in all classes to remain in chorus. Any student with an "N" or "D" in any class will be put on probation which means the student will still be expected to attend rehearsals but may not perform with the choir until the grade is brought up. Any student who makes a failing grade (an "F" or a "U" on his/her report card in any class will no longer be able to be in the chorus.
Student Leadership:
The chorus will elect attendance secretaries for each semester.
Uniform:
Informal Concert Attire: T-shirt and Jeans
Students will need to pay $15 to cover the cost of the Overholser Overtones t-shirt (plus music). They will also need a pair of blue jeans for informal concerts. We will wear informal wear to rehearsals at other schools and to sing at Overholser events.
Formal Concert Attire: White Oxford Shirt, Black Pants or Skirt (below the knee), Dark Shoes, Bowtie, and Cummerbund
I will be providing students with the bowtie and cummerbund. If the bowtie and/or cummerbund are lost, the student will owe Mrs. Robertson $10 to replace one item or $20 to replace both. The student will need to purchase either black pants or a black skirt separately. All Honors Chorus members are required to have a white, long-sleeved button-down shirt with a collar for formal concert attire. We will wear formal attire for West Fest, Christmas, OCDA Festival, and Dinner Theater. A mandatory uniform check will occur on Thursday, October 29th to ensure all students have the necessary uniform pieces.
T-Shirt Contest:
The Overholser Overtones t-shirt will be designed by a choir member. Student wishing to enter his/her drawing for the t-shirt design must turn in his/her design by September 17th for consideration. "Overholser Overhones," "Overholser Elementary," and "2009-2010" are required to appear on the t-shirt. Other ideas for consideration include "Putnam City School," or this year's theme, "Learning is Out of This World."
Cost:
A one-time fee of $15 will be collected on September 10th. If a student leaves chorus before the year is through, this fee is nonrefundable. Extra t-shirts may be purchased for $15 each.
