About The Teacher

I have taught at Cascia since before most of you were born! Obviously, I
really love it here. Following graduation from Rhodes College in 1972, I
attended graduate school at SMU and received my M.A. in English Literature in
1979. During the time I spent at SMU, I studied at their campus at
University College in Oxford, England. After having taught English at
Highland Park High School in Dallas for 12 years, I married and moved north
of the Red River. Here in Tulsa, I've taught at TCC Southeast Campus and at
Cascia since 1988. I love to travel, read, garden, play tennis with select
people who know my (lack of) speed, and study issues of social justice.
Francis Bok, a former slave in Sudan, is one of my heroes! If you don't know
him, ask any of my classes of four-five years ago. 'Looking forward to a
great year
together!

Mission For The Class

There are three focus points I always try to emphasize. We will work to
accomplish these together as a class:

1. Students need to feel a sense of belonging and unity.
2. Students need to feel a sense of accomplishment.
3. Each student composes uniquely with her/his own "thumbprint" of thought,
and we learn to look for that uniqueness and celebrate all our narrative
voices.
