Announcements

Bonjour! I am your child's French teacher this year. In this letter, I would like to give you an overview of this year's French learning schedule. Please read, sign and return it to school.

Your child will need to be equipped with:

· a French-English dictionary

· a binder, or, a designated space in their binder for French

Your child is expected to be organized, have all materials needed on hand, and assignments completed on time. Assignment criteria and deadlines will be posted regularly to the class homework website.

This year's curriculum is divided into 2 major units of study in addition to several smaller units. Each unit will include regular engaging language-building activities focussed on reading, oral communication and writing. Your child's progress will be assessed using a variety of tools, including, but not limited to, projects, tests, and quality of participation in oral communication activities.

Assignments will call for applications of specific vocabulary and grammatical structures learned in class. Your child is expected to demonstrate what he/she has learned. For this reason, and for assessment purposes, students will be completing most of their work in class (translating using the internet is considered cheating).

I have a NO HOMEWORK policy. The only exception is for test preparation.

While I assign little homework, I strongly encourage parents and guardians to help motivate their child to learn French. There are many benefits to learning a second or third language, and the best way to learn is to practice daily. It would be my pleasure to offer suggestions with regard to how you can help your child learn French.

Should you have any other questions, or concerns, at any time throughout the year, please do not hesitate in contacting me at the school by phone (429-2551) or by email (pcroteauATmail1.scdsb.on.ca). If there is anything you feel I should know about your son or daughter, please include it on the form below before signing and returning to school with your child.

Sincerely,

Philippe Croteau
