Height = whatever the student thinks will fit a partner and him/her best (think carefully)
3/4" trim boards may be used to edge the tabletop and must be accounted for in dimensions

• Discussed general shop safety and reviewed the mitre saw and the table saw
• Discussed hardwoods vs. softwoods (rule of thumb is hardwood=deciduous, softwood=coniferous)
• Hardwood and softwood are NOT determined by the actual "hardness" or "softness" of the wood itself
• Examples of hardwood: Oak, Maple, Birch, Walnut, Cherry, Basswood, Balsa
• Examples of softwood: Spruce, Pine, Fir, Cedar, Redwood
• Discussed "Nominal" size (2x4, 2x6, etc) vs. "Actual" size (1 1/2" x 3 1/2")
• Dimensional lumber is 2 x n where n is the width of the board (2 x 10). Also applies to 4 x or 6 x lumber.
• Boards are 1 x n where n is the width of the board (1 x 6)
• Finished up orthographic views of bench hook
• Finished assembly of bench hooks
