Tech Design 11 'blog

• Introduction to fine woodworking design and techniques.
• Concepts of rough and dressed lumber, types of lumber, species of trees discussed.
• Began discussion/demonstration of the Order of Operations for Dressing Lumber (on Files page)
• Acronym is FEWTEL
• Face, Edge, Width, Thickness, End, Length
• Demonstration of jointer, tablesaw, and planer
• Began first project which shall remain unnamed in case it shows up under the Christmas tree this year.

WEEK 13


Fri, Nov 27
• Robot Contest Day 5 - THE FINAL ROUND
• The Teams:
Cole & Riley --> Record 4-0-0 and 45 points (including a record 14 point match)
Amy & Clair & Rani --> Record 4-1-0 and and 45 points (not including their 6 point loss)
• And the winner is:
COLE & RILEY!

Thurs, Nov 26
• Robot Contest Day 4
• All robots have now been through the double-elimination tournament and we are now ready for the finals.
• Finals will be tomorrow featuring Cole & Riley versus Amy & Clair & Rani.
• Note to everyone: Thank you to Ben and Nathan for subbing for some absent players.

Wed, Nov 25
• Robot Contest Day 3
• All robots playing...some better than others...but all are at least mostly functional
• Some very close matches
• Videos and pictures will be posted when I get some time.

Tues, Nov 24
• Robot Contest Day 2 - 8 of 9 teams played but only about 5 teams were actually ready
• Complete and utter mess left in shop
• Shop privileges for robots are now discontinued. In other words, your robot now plays AS IS!
• Nothing brings out the worst in people better than a competition.
• Tone of the course now changes

• TSK, TSK, TSK!

WEEK 12


Wed, Nov 18 - Fri, Nov 20
• Build continues...clearly another extension has been granted
• First completed robot group did a bonus cable car challenge...and finished it by Friday...NICE!
• The robot operations manual is due Friday, Nov 27th
• Double Elimination Pick&Place Smackdown begins on Monday!

Tues, Nov 17
• 3 robots are complete. 2 of them lack documentation at this point
• Others continue to come along

Mon, Nov 16
• One robot is complete, tested, and documented...waiting for action!
• Two other robots appear complete and are ready for testing
• Another robot appears to be close to completion, once the glue dries overnight tonight
• All other robots appear to be...uhm...progressing positively, but slowly
• Absolute deadline for a complete, tested, documented robot is this Friday, November 20th.

• Robot construction progress is excellent slowing...a functional robot is expected by Friday
